Hugh H. Woodside, ASA, CFA
Hugh is an Accredited Senior Appraiser (ASA) of the American Society of Appraisers and a CFA (Chartered Financial Analyst) charterholder. Hugh is a Managing Director at Empire Valuation Consultants, LLC, where he has worked since 2000.
Hugh has managed and performed valuation engagements involving various classes of equity and debt, interests in pass-through entities, intangible assets, purchase price allocations, stock options, warrants, and other unique equity-linked securities. These valuations have been for estate and gift tax reporting, ESOP administration, acquisitions, recapitalizations, litigation support, general corporate reporting, and SEC reporting. These engagements have involved firms in a diverse array of industries, including alternative asset management, traditional asset management and investment advisory, restaurants, hotels and leisure, apparel, publishing, construction, and a variety of manufacturing and service businesses.
Hugh specializes in the valuation of carried interests in private equity and hedge funds, and has extensive experience in the valuation of limited partnership interests in such funds. He has managed several complex gift and estate tax valuation engagements, each involving more than 100 individual companies and various types of ownership interests. Hugh has given presentations on carried interest valuations, Rule 144, restricted stock analysis and discounts for lack of marketability, S-Corp valuation and other topics in a variety of settings. He has provided litigation support in dissenting shareholder, matrimonial and lost profits disputes, primarily in New York.
Hugh previously worked in the corporate business planning group of The Hertz Corporation. He holds a B.A. in International Relations from Syracuse University and a Masters in International Management (Finance & Entrepreneurship) from the Thunderbird School of Global Management. Hugh was President of the Western New York Chapter of the American Society of Appraisers from 2007 to 2011. He is also a member of the CFA Institute and the CFA Society of Rochester.
